In response to opposition criticism of the Agnipath scheme, multiple BJP-ruled states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, have announced reservations for Agniveers in state jobs such as police and forest guard positions. These announcements were made on Kargil Vijay Diwas, emphasizing the scheme's intent to modernize the armed forces and support ex-servicemen. The percentage of reservations remains undisclosed in many states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier urged state governments to facilitate the absorption of Agniveers post-service. Despite the support from BJP-ruled states, the scheme continues to face opposition and demands for its repeal from various political parties and young aspirants.
