Meta Launches Language Technology Partner Program with UNESCO to Enhance AI Translation

Meta has launched the Language Technology Partner Program in collaboration with UNESCO to advance AI translation tools, particularly for underserved languages. This initiative invites contributors to provide speech recordings, transcriptions, and translated texts, with the goal of improving AI models that often struggle with low-resource languages. The program has already garnered support from the Government of Nunavut, which will share data in the Inuit languages of Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun. Participants will have the opportunity to work with Meta's AI experts and access training on open-source language tools. Additionally, Meta is introducing an open-source machine translation benchmark to assess AI performance across various languages. The program is seen as a significant step toward making AI language technology more inclusive and accessible globally.
