Penske Fires Top Three IndyCar Executives
Scott McLaughlin endured a difficult May, suffering two crashes at the Indianapolis 500—including one on the warm-up lap—and causing another incident at the Detroit Grand Prix, followed by a social media dispute with McLaren team principal Tony Kanaan. Team Penske's challenges deepened when Josef Newgarden and Will Power were disqualified from Indy 500 qualifying due to illegal car modifications, resulting in the firing of the team’s top three executives, including longtime strategist Tim Cindric. McLaughlin retained his 10th-place starting position for the Indy 500 but crashed and was visibly emotional. He subsequently finished 12th at Detroit, the lowest among Penske drivers. As IndyCar prepares for its second oval race of the season and its first prime-time broadcast on Fox, McLaughlin is focused on rebounding. He remains optimistic and views the upcoming races as opportunities for growth.
