Anonymous Letters Target Shiptonthorpe Councillors

The village of Shiptonthorpe in East Yorkshire has been terrorized by anonymous poison pen letters for the past two years, targeting residents with vulgar, personal, and obscene messages. The campaign has predominantly targeted parish councillors but has affected other residents as well, spreading fear and distrust within the community. Some letters contained severe insults, such as wishing cancer on recipients or accusing individuals of using sexual favors to advance in politics. Despite police investigations, including CCTV reviews, the perpetrator remains unidentified, leading to heightened tensions and even causing some villagers to move away. This situation is reminiscent of a similar historical case in Littlehampton in the 1920s.
