MSU Trustees Correct $4.2M Housing-Dining Fee Error

Michigan State University's Board of Trustees held a special meeting to correct a clerical error in the previously approved 2025-26 housing and dining rate increase. The board voted 5-3 to approve the corrected rate, with dissenting trustees citing concerns about timely access to information and transparency over how student fees are used, including funding for certain campus renovations. The error was identified after the board's April vote, prompting university officials to clarify that the rate should align with the intended 2.9% increase. The housing and dining fees fund the university's Division of Residential and Hospitality Services, with some allocations going toward broader initiatives such as campus renovations and transportation services. Additional increases to off-campus dining plans and door rates, attributed to inflation and rising wages, were also announced for the coming academic year.
