Archaeologists in Greece have discovered a 4,000-year-old stone structure in Crete that could provide insight into Minoan civilisation during the Bronze Age. The circular building, found on the island's highest point, has a diameter of 157 feet and consists of eight superimposed stone rings intersected by small walls to form rooms. Pottery found at the site suggests it was constructed between 2000 and 1700 BC, at the height of the Minoan period, and may have been used for rituals. The discovery, made during construction of a new airport, has raised questions over the future of the site given the airport's anticipated traffic once it opens in 2027. The Culture Ministry has emphasized the need to continue excavation and preservation of the site, which is considered a significant and unique discovery for its period. Currently, archaeologists are trying to ascertain the building's exact purpose.
