England Midfielder Angel Gomes Joins Marseille After Lille Exit

England midfielder Angel Gomes has completed a transfer to nine-time French champions Marseille following the expiration of his contract with Lille. Gomes, 24, spent the past four seasons at Lille, making 134 appearances and contributing 10 goals and 19 assists. He began his career at Manchester United, debuting at 16, before leaving in 2020 after limited first-team opportunities. Gomes made his England senior debut last year under interim manager Lee Carsley and has four international caps but has not yet played under current manager Thomas Tuchel. At Marseille, he will reunite with former Manchester United teammate Mason Greenwood, as the club prepares for the upcoming Champions League season after finishing second in Ligue 1. The move was announced after Marseille reached an agreement in principle last month.
