Klausmeier Unveils $4.8 Billion Budget Prioritizing Education, Safety

Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier has proposed a $4.8 billion budget for fiscal year 2026, focusing on public education, safety, and infrastructure while not raising taxes. The budget allocates nearly $30 million in new operating funds for public schools and over $350 million for school construction and upgrades, despite challenges from state budget constraints and federal economic uncertainties. Significant investments include $60 million for senior centers, over $38 million for roadway resurfacing, and $2 million for a new welding program at the Community College of Baltimore County. Klausmeier emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal responsibility amid rising costs and a $15 million charge for teacher pensions that the county will now cover. The budget proposal is set to be voted on by the County Council on May 22. Klausmeier expressed confidence in the county's financial future despite these challenges.
