Lawsuit Filed Against Kansas Health System Over Abortion Denial

Mylissa Farmer has filed a lawsuit against The University of Kansas Health System, claiming she was unlawfully denied an emergency abortion while experiencing a miscarriage in August 2022. Farmer, who was nearly 18 weeks pregnant, sought treatment after her water broke and doctors confirmed her pregnancy was no longer viable. Despite the imminent health risks, including potential sepsis and hemorrhaging, the hospital reportedly refused to perform the abortion due to political pressures and legal restrictions following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The lawsuit alleges violations of federal laws requiring emergency medical treatment and accuses the hospital of sex discrimination.
