Russian Gas Exports to Europe Rise 37% via TurkStream in July
In 2025, Russian natural gas exports to Europe have significantly declined overall, but July saw a notable 37% month-over-month increase in pipeline flows due to the completion of maintenance on the TurkStream pipeline, the only active route following the cessation of transit through Ukraine. Daily gas flows via TurkStream reached approximately 51.5 million cubic meters, a 4.7% increase year-over-year, underscoring the pipeline's strategic importance for supplying Turkey and southeastern Europe. Despite these temporary surges, Russia's total gas exports to Europe have almost halved in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, impacted by the EU's efforts to phase out Russian energy and the stoppage of pipeline transit through Ukraine. Russian LNG exports to Europe have also declined, affected by the EU's ban on Russian LNG transshipments. The overall trend reflects Europe's ongoing transition away from Russian gas amid geopolitical tensions and energy policy shifts. Additionally, legal developments such as the lifting of arrest on Gazprom's shares by The Hague court highlight the complex economic and political environment surrounding Russian energy exports.
