Medic Called to Welsh Pembrokeshire Set for Freezing Actors
Carey Mulligan stars in the upcoming comedy-drama The Ballad of Wallis Island, filmed in coastal Wales, notably around Pembrokeshire. Despite being shot during summer months, the cast endured freezing temperatures, prompting a medic to monitor actors' health, with Tom Basden reportedly turning blue during many takes. Mulligan, whose mother is from Llandeilo, Wales, played one half of a disbanded folk band reunited for a gig on the island of Wallis, alongside Basden as her ex-boyfriend and comedian Tim Key as a fan who funds the reunion. The film is based on the original short, The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island, which was BAFTA-nominated in 2008 and also starred Key and Basden. Mulligan fondly recalled the filming as a precious time, especially as she had a newborn baby then, creating cherished memories with the cast supporting her. The film, co-written by Basden and Key, has received critical acclaim and will be released in UK cinemas soon.
