Florida Coasts Hit by King Tides, Nor'easter Flooding

Heavy rain, king tides associated with a nearing supermoon, and a developing nor'easter/weak low near the Bahamas are driving widespread coastal flooding and flash‑flooding across Florida and parts of the Gulf Coast, inundating streets and riverfront properties from the Space Coast through Northeast and South Florida. At Oak Point Retirement Community on the Space Coast, riverfront lots flooded rapidly, residents said seawalls are too low, and homeowners moved vehicles and used makeshift barriers as more rain was forecast. Northeast Florida officials issued coastal flood advisories and warnings for areas including St. Johns, Clay, Putnam and Duval counties, closed beaches to vehicular traffic at high tides, reported high rip‑current risk, and are assessing dune erosion while recently nourished areas in Flagler are holding up better. South Florida saw severe street flooding that stranded residents and vehicles in East Hollywood, Bal Harbour and Coral Gables, prompting heightened local monitoring. Forecasters warned that strong onshore winds (sustained 15–25 mph with gusts near 35 mph, and similar Gulf gusts), rounds of heavy rain and the approaching full moon could lift tides to roughly 2–2.5 feet above normal high tide levels through the weekend, triggering coastal flood and small craft advisories. Authorities urged residents to avoid floodwaters, follow "turn around, don't drown," heed marine warnings and continue preparations as conditions persist into early next week.
