Stellantis is planning to lay off up to 2,450 of its 3,700 union workers at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan as it ends production of the Ram 1500 Classic pickup truck. The company will shift production of the new 2025 Ram 1500 Tradesman to the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, resulting in the Warren plant moving from two shifts to one. The layoffs, which may begin as early as October 8, will be mitigated by early retirement offers and seniority bumping rights. Affected workers will receive 52 weeks of supplemental unemployment benefits, 52 weeks of transition assistance, and two years of healthcare coverage. The United Auto Workers (UAW) has criticized the decision, despite Stellantis’ assurances of support for the laid-off employees.
