Democrats and Republicans Win Barnstable Elections
In the recent elections, Democratic incumbents Mark Forest and Sheila Lyons secured their positions on the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners, defeating Republican challengers Ronald Beaty Jr. and Cynthia Stead. State Rep. David Vieira retained his seat in the 3rd Barnstable District, receiving 56% of the vote against Fox Alfano. Kip Diggs won the 2nd Barnstable District seat with 59.2% of the votes over Republican Susanne Conley. Christopher Flanagan also successfully defended his seat in the 1st Barnstable District against Gerald O'Connell, securing 56.4% of the vote. Meanwhile, Republican Steven Xiarhos triumphed in the 5th Barnstable District, earning 16,092 votes to Democrat Owen Fletcher’s 10,069. These results reflect a continued preference for Democratic candidates in the region, despite some competitive races.
