West Broward High Band Invited to Prestigious 2027 London Parade

West Broward High School's marching band has been honored with an invitation to perform in the prestigious 2027 London New Year's Day Parade, an event often compared to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade but on a larger international scale. The invitation was delivered in a surprise assembly by Sir Duncan Sandys, Winston Churchill’s great-grandson and former Lord Mayor of London, who praised the band's exceptional musicianship and noted that only about 16 to 20 U.S. bands are selected each year. Band director Joshua Bishop highlighted the rigorous practice schedule and the valuable experience students will gain by performing alongside international peers. Approximately 120 students will participate, though seniors graduating before the event expressed pride and plan to support their classmates. The community is preparing fundraising efforts to cover the significant costs, estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, for the band's week-long trip to London. This marks a significant achievement for the school, with the previous Florida high school band to perform in London being Key West High School in 2024.
