Irish Backpacker Found Dead in Thailand

Robby Kinlan, a 21-year-old Irish backpacker, was found dead in his hotel room on Koh Tao, Thailand, on January 9, 2024. Discovered by a friend, he was found in boxer shorts while holding his charging phone. Local authorities are awaiting calmer seas to send his body for a post-mortem examination, with no signs of foul play noted at the scene. Kinlan's mother, Tracy King, expressed her grief in a heartfelt tribute, stating that he was living his dream of scuba diving and freediving in Thailand. A crowdfunding campaign has been initiated by friends to assist in repatriating his body to Ireland, with over €37,000 already raised. If repatriation proves impossible, plans for a cremation at a Buddhist temple are in place.
