Mario Balotelli, the 34-year-old former Manchester City and Italy striker, has joined Serie A club Genoa as a free agent, marking his return to Italian football after more than four years away. Known for his unpredictable career and disciplinary issues, Balotelli has previously played for clubs like Inter Milan, Manchester City, AC Milan, and Liverpool, winning multiple trophies. Despite a recent stint in Turkey with Adana Demirspor, where he scored seven goals in 16 games, Balotelli has been without a club since June. Genoa, currently struggling in 18th place in Serie A, hopes Balotelli can bolster their attack and help avoid relegation. This move comes after Balotelli turned down an offer from a Spanish third-tier team, making Genoa his preferred destination, where he will play under former teammate Alberto Gilardino. He will sign a contract with Genoa until June 2025.
