Xi Pledges Military Aid and Jobs at FOCAC Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged 1 billion yuan (US$140.5 million) in military aid and training for 6,000 military personnel and 1,000 police officers in Africa, as part of efforts to strengthen security ties. This initiative includes inviting 500 young military officers to China for exercises and landmine clearance. Additionally, Xi announced over $50 billion in financing to create one million jobs in Africa over the next three years. He outlined 10 partnership actions covering areas such as trade, industrial cooperation, healthcare, and green development. These commitments were made at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) taking place in Beijing from September 4 to 6, 2024, symbolizing China's growing influence in Africa and its strategic support for the continent's development.
