Pontiac Launches Downtown Revitalization with Phoenix Center Demolition

Oakland County officials have initiated the demolition of the Phoenix Center in Pontiac, marking a significant step in the city’s revitalization efforts. The project, which will cost over $60 million, aims to relocate approximately 700 county jobs back to downtown Pontiac and reconnect Saginaw Street, enhancing the area’s accessibility and appeal. State funding of $50 million, along with an additional $10 million from Oakland County, supports this initiative, despite potential cost increases due to new tariffs. The demolition is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, paving the way for new developments, including green spaces and residential projects.
