Tropical Storm Erin Forms in Eastern Atlantic Expected to Become First 2025 Hurricane
Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and is expected to strengthen into the Atlantic's first hurricane of the 2025 season, potentially reaching Category 3 intensity by mid-August. Forecasters, including those at the National Hurricane Center and AccuWeather, note favorable conditions such as warm waters and low wind shear that could intensify the storm as it moves west-northwest, likely passing north of the Caribbean. Current forecast models suggest Erin will turn north near the Bahamas and stay east of the U.S. East Coast, although the path remains uncertain and could still pose localized threats such as rough surf and rip currents along coastal areas. The National Hurricane Center has begun advisories and emphasizes continued monitoring due to model uncertainties. Meanwhile, residents in affected regions are advised to stay cautious of heat-related dangers and to remain indoors in air-conditioned environments during extreme heat conditions. This storm is the first named system of an expected above-normal hurricane season with 13 to 18 named storms forecasted, including five to nine hurricanes.
