Eric Dane Reveals April ALS Diagnosis, Advocates Funding

Eric Dane announced in April that he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and says he remains determined to keep working and spend time with family as the disease progresses. He has continued to work—filming Euphoria season 3 and taking a guest role as Mathew, a firefighter with ALS, in NBC’s Brilliant Minds (airing Nov. 24), which includes scenes with Zachary Quinto. Dane missed a Grey’s Anatomy reunion after a fall that required hospitalization, and recent viral videos showing him using a wheelchair and appearing frail at Toronto’s airport have prompted public concern and pleas for privacy. Off-screen, he has become an advocate for ALS research and treatment, partnering with I AM ALS on the Push for Progress campaign aimed at raising $1 billion, lobbying for federal research funding, and receiving recognition such as Advocate of the Year.
