The Elephants played most of the game with 10 men after Odilon Kossounou's dismissal. Diakite earned the winning goal in the 122nd minute, following Simon Adringa's 90th-minute equalizer. Despite his pivotal goal, Diakite's celebration resulted in his ban for the next match against DR Congo. Mali's Hamari Traore was also dismissed at the end of the match for his protests.
