Toyota GR Relaunches AE86 Engine Parts With Modern Upgrades

Toyota is expanding its GR Heritage Parts program by reproducing and modernizing engine components for the iconic AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno, specifically the 1.6-liter 4A-GE four-cylinder engine. These newly produced cylinder head and block sub-assemblies incorporate modern manufacturing techniques, materials, and customer feedback, including thicker intake and exhaust port walls, improved machining to equalize performance, and enhanced durability with high-rigidity cast iron and redesigned crank-cap structures. The updated block is also compatible with front-wheel-drive models, broadening its application beyond the rear-wheel-drive AE86 twins. Toyota plans to showcase an AE86 build featuring these parts at the Initial D 30th Anniversary event at Fuji Speedway, with pre-orders opening during the event. Separately, for owners of Toyota’s 1990s-era trucks and SUVs with the 5VZ-FE 3.4-liter V6 engine, Arizona-based LC Engineering offers a Performance Stage 1 5VZ Long Block crate engine that serves as a direct replacement with enhancements like ported heads, ARP studs, and a lightweight crank pulley. This crate engine is supercharger-ready, comes with a one-year unlimited-mile warranty, and presents a cost-effective alternative to buying new or swapping in more expensive engines, providing a reliable way to extend the life and performance of classic Toyota trucks.
