PM Anwar Reopens Upgraded KLIA Aerotrain After Yearlong Upgrade

The KLIA Aerotrain has officially resumed operations after over a year of extensive upgrades and maintenance, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally inspecting and riding the service. The RM456 million upgrade, part of a larger RM742 million Airport Regeneration Plan, introduced modernised Alstom Innovia APM 300R trainsets that can carry up to 270 passengers and travel at speeds of 56 km/h, reducing transfer times between terminals to under three minutes. The Aerotrain is essential for the 100,000 daily passengers at KLIA, particularly international travelers transiting through the satellite terminal. Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) officials confirmed that the system underwent rigorous safety and performance testing before relaunch. The upgrade aims to enhance passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and prepare KLIA for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 while reinforcing its status as a world-class aviation hub. Anwar praised the service as faster and more efficient, highlighting its importance in maintaining KLIA’s global reputation ahead of his international diplomatic visits.
