Garmin Launches Fenix 8 Pro With Brightest MicroLED Smartwatch Screen

Garmin has launched the Fenix 8 Pro series, featuring the world's first microLED smartwatch display, touted as the brightest ever with up to 4,500 nits of brightness—significantly surpassing the Apple Watch Ultra 2's 3,000 nits. The Fenix 8 Pro comes in two display options: a microLED version costing $2,000 with a 51mm size and up to 10 days of battery life, and an AMOLED version available in 47mm and 51mm sizes priced between $1,100 and $1,300, offering up to 27 days of battery life. Both models include Garmin's inReach satellite messaging for off-grid communication and LTE connectivity, enabling messaging and SOS functionality without cell service, with a monthly fee for the service expected. This release preempts the anticipated launch of Apple's Watch Ultra 3, which is also rumored to feature microLED technology. The microLED technology enhances screen visibility outdoors, especially under bright sunlight, but the increased brightness impacts battery life compared to the AMOLED variant. Garmin is positioning the Fenix 8 Pro as a premium outdoor and fitness smartwatch with advanced health, navigation, and communication features, available to order starting September 8, 2025.
