Animation Guild Tentative Contract Faces Opposition

The Animation Guild is currently facing internal dissent regarding a tentative contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, primarily due to concerns over generative AI provisions. Three members of the guild's negotiating committee, including Mike Rianda, have publicly declared their intention to vote 'no', asserting that the AI protections are insufficient and could jeopardize jobs within the industry. The guild's executive board, however, maintains that more than 90% of the committee supports the contract, which they claim offers significant improvements, including wage increases and enhanced health benefits. Despite these gains, dissenters argue that the contract fails to include critical staffing minimums and sufficient protections against the use of AI. The ratification vote is open until December 22, and a rejection could lead to renewed negotiations or even a strike authorization.
