EU, Azerbaijan Strengthen Energy Ties Amid Gas Supply Efforts

On April 4, Baku will host the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council meeting, where representatives from the EU, Azerbaijan, and other partner countries will discuss increasing gas supplies and enhancing energy cooperation. European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen emphasized the importance of diversifying energy supplies to phase out dependency on Russian fuels and address energy security challenges. The meeting will also focus on renewable energy initiatives and the development of a regional green energy corridor, aligning with the EU's Clean Industrial Deal and REPowerEU plans. Additionally, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted discussions with the US regarding gas supply opportunities and green energy projects, highlighting the strategic partnership between the two nations. The Southern Gas Corridor is critical for transporting natural gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe, with initial capacity set to expand from 10 to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
