James Howells Sues Newport Council Over Bitcoin

James Howells, 39, is suing Newport City Council to recover a hard drive containing the password to his lost Bitcoin fortune, which is currently valued at £569 million. The hard drive was mistakenly thrown away by his then-partner in 2013, and since then, Howells has spent years seeking permission to excavate a landfill where it is believed to be located. A court hearing regarding the council's application to dismiss the case is scheduled for December 3. Howells asserts ownership of the digital property and has pledged to donate 10% of any recovered funds to benefit the local community. He believes that if successful, Newport could transform into a thriving hub akin to 'Dubai or Las Vegas'. Despite his efforts, the council has been resistant to discussions about the excavation.
