Dali Mpofu Joins MK Party After EFF Departure

Dali Mpofu, the former chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has officially joined the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, citing a desire for unity among progressive forces as his primary motivation. Mpofu, who played a key role in the EFF's establishment and served as its chair from 2014 to 2019, emphasized that his decision was not personal but rather aimed at achieving broader emancipation and unity. His move follows that of former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu, who also joined the MK Party earlier this year, highlighting a trend of significant departures from the EFF. Mpofu described the MK Party as the only viable vehicle for this vision, stating, “I’m joining MK because I believe that it is the vehicle to achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity.” His transition reflects a growing sentiment among political leaders seeking alternative platforms for their ideals amid the EFF's recent challenges.
