Three Britons Face Bali Trial for Cocaine Smuggling
Three British nationals—Jonathan Collyer, Lisa Stocker, and Phineas Float—are on trial in Bali, Indonesia, accused of smuggling nearly one kilogram of cocaine concealed in Angel Delight sachets, with an estimated street value of $368,000. Collyer and Stocker, a couple, were arrested at Bali's international airport in February after customs found the drugs in their luggage, while Float was apprehended days later following a police-controlled delivery. Indonesian authorities allege the trio had previously smuggled cocaine into Bali on two prior occasions before being caught. If convicted under Indonesia’s stringent narcotics laws, they could face the death penalty, although executions have been halted since a 2017 moratorium. There are currently about 530 people, including 96 foreigners, on death row in Indonesia, mostly for drug offenses. The case highlights Indonesia's tough stance on drug crimes and recent moves to repatriate some inmates on humanitarian grounds.
