Swiss Government Adopts Wage Protection Measures for EU Deal

The Swiss government has adopted a new package of measures aimed at protecting workers' wages, particularly in light of upcoming agreements with the European Union (EU). This package includes 14 measures, 13 of which have been agreed upon by social partners and cantons, focusing on safeguarding collective agreements against being undermined by EU workers. The measures are designed to enhance legal protection for domestic companies affected by these agreements and improve dismissal protections for certain employee representatives. Additionally, the Swiss government is preparing to incorporate these measures into a consultation draft for a deeper trade agreement with the EU, addressing concerns from unions about wage pressures. The Federal Council emphasizes that these adjustments primarily target EU-based companies, ensuring that they do not impose significant burdens on the Swiss labor market. This development follows extensive negotiations and aims to reinforce the country's wage protection framework.
