Colorado Teen Sentenced for Downers Grove Armed Robbery

A 17-year-old Venezuelan migrant from Colorado pleaded guilty to armed robbery with a firearm for an incident in Downers Grove, Illinois, where he and accomplices robbed a woman at gunpoint, obtaining approximately $110. The crime occurred in April 2025 on Forest Avenue, with the juvenile displaying a handgun and demanding money while another suspect tugged at the victim's purse. After an arrest warrant was issued in May, the teen waived extradition and was brought back to Illinois to face charges, subsequently being detained and sentenced to an indeterminate term in the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice until his 21st birthday. DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the county's zero-tolerance policy for armed violence and praised the Downers Grove Police Department for their efforts, including extradition from Colorado, in holding the juvenile accountable. The case highlights the county's commitment to ensuring safety and enforcing the law across state lines. Assistant State's Attorney Nick Catizone was also acknowledged for his role in prosecuting the case and protecting the community.
