Fired North Las Vegas Worker Opens Fire on Former Co-Workers, Injures Self
John Garcia, a 46-year-old former construction worker in North Las Vegas, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly opening fire on his former co-workers at a job site. The shooting occurred over a week after Garcia was fired following a violent altercation in which he threatened and physically assaulted colleagues, including pulling a knife, and later made further threats at another job site. Surveillance footage captured the shooting incident, during which Garcia fired approximately 15 rounds from a rifle before being shot in the shoulder by one of the workers who returned fire. Garcia was found in his truck with an AR-15 rifle, two rifles matching the caliber of the shooting, and an open container of alcohol. Police reports and interviews revealed Garcia was struggling financially, with reduced work hours and personal issues, and he felt harassed and mocked by co-workers, including over his skin complexion and language ability. Garcia is being held on bail and is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing, while his actions have caused significant fear among his former co-workers, some of whom armed themselves for protection despite company policies.
