West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced an increase in the government grant for Durga Puja committees from Rs 70,000 to Rs 85,000 this year, with plans to raise it to Rs 1 lakh next year. This hike will cost the state exchequer over Rs 365.5 crore for 43,000 organizers. Banerjee also increased the electricity subsidy for pandals from 66% to 75% and emphasized safety measures, including multiple entry and exit points to prevent stampedes. She underscored the state's financial constraints, noting that Bengal received no allocation in the Union Budget. The Durga Puja Carnival will be held on October 15, showcasing award-winning idols. Banerjee reiterated her stance against VIP privileges at pandals to ensure smooth public movement.
