Uber Files Federal Suit Over Florida Staged Crash Fraud Scheme
Uber Technologies has filed a federal lawsuit in South Florida accusing a network of attorneys, medical professionals, and rideshare drivers of orchestrating a sophisticated insurance fraud scheme involving staged car accidents and fabricated injuries. The lawsuit alleges that five Uber drivers were bribed to intentionally cause collisions and that claimants were directed to specific auto repair shops to falsely substantiate injuries, leading to fraudulent insurance claims and unwarranted medical treatments. Uber claims the fraudulent activities, conducted during 2023 and 2024, have cost the company several million dollars in legal defense fees and settlements. The Miami-based Law Group of South Florida and attorney Andy Loynaz, along with River Medical Center and other clinics, are accused of participating by submitting false injury claims and initiating baseless lawsuits against Uber and its insurer. This legal action is part of Uber's broader strategy, including previous suits in New York and advocacy efforts for insurance reform, aimed at curbing rising insurance costs that impact fare prices and threaten the viability of its U.S. rideshare operations. Uber emphasizes its commitment to protecting consumers from the financial consequences of such fraudulent schemes.
