British Open Offers Spot for LIV Golf Player

The R&A has announced that the leading player from LIV Golf, not already exempt, will qualify for the British Open at Royal Portrush this July. This opportunity comes after a similar exemption was granted by the USGA for the upcoming US Open, allowing the top player in LIV Golf's standings to secure a spot. R&A chief executive Mark Darbon emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the Open is a global championship meant for the best golfers, and acknowledging the merit of LIV participants. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil praised the decision as a validation of the league's competitiveness. This marks a significant shift as LIV Golf players have faced challenges in earning entry to major tournaments due to the lack of world ranking points. The British Open will take place from July 17 to 20 at the Dunluce links course.
