North Yorkshire, Leicester Councils Plan Parking Fee Increases

North Yorkshire Council is proposing a ten percent increase in on and off-street parking fees for the second consecutive year, aimed at generating nearly £2 million in additional revenue to fund significant parking infrastructure improvements. This includes replacing all 430 parking machines and upgrading lighting in car parks, estimated to cost £2.4 million. Council officials have indicated that the fee hikes are necessary to enhance the customer experience and encourage environmentally friendly transportation options. Similarly, Leicester City Council plans to raise parking charges amid a budget crisis, with expected increases generating an additional £1.1 million annually. The adjustments in Leicester aim to align charges with those of private operators, marking only the second increase in a decade. Both councils emphasize that the additional revenue will be reinvested in local services and infrastructure.
