French Police Investigate Death Threats to Israeli Athletes

French police have initiated an investigation into death threats directed at three Israeli athletes participating in the Paris Olympic Games, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutors' office. The threats, which were communicated via emails from a group calling itself the 'People’s Defense Organization,' have raised concerns reminiscent of the 1972 Munich massacre. Concurrently, anti-cybercrime officers are working to remove the unauthorized release of the athletes' personal data that appeared on social media. Israel's foreign minister has warned of a potential Iranian-backed plot aiming at Israeli athletes and tourists, prompting the provision of 24-hour protection for the athletes by elite tactical units and assistance from Israel's internal security service, Shin Bet. Despite investigations, no links to Iran or foreign entities have been established thus far. France has deployed extensive security measures for the Olympics, involving around 18,000 troops along with police forces.
