Studio Ghibli Partners with mm2 for Film Distribution

Studio Ghibli has partnered with Singapore-based mm2 Entertainment to rerelease 21 of its classic animated films across Southeast Asia over the next five years, targeting territories such as Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and more. The deal includes iconic titles like 'Spirited Away,' 'Howl's Moving Castle,' and 'My Neighbor Totoro,' with the first screenings slated for later this year. This initiative follows a successful strategy in China, where Ghibli films garnered significant box office revenue, indicating a strong potential for similar success in Southeast Asia. Chang Long Jong, CEO of mm2 Asia, highlighted the films' artistry and emotional impact, emphasizing the partnership's goal to introduce them to a new generation of fans. The collaboration comes on the heels of Ghibli receiving an honorary Palme d'Or at Cannes and the success of Miyazaki's latest film, 'The Boy and the Heron.'
