Waterslide Malfunction Injures Passenger on Icon of Seas
An adult passenger was injured after an acrylic glass panel broke off the Frightening Bolt waterslide aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. The incident happened on August 7 while the ship was sailing a round-trip from Miami, causing water to gush from a large hole in the slide. The passenger received medical treatment on board and is in stable condition, though no further details about the injuries have been disclosed. The waterslide was closed for the remainder of the voyage as an investigation began. No other injuries were reported, and no one fell out of the slide. Icon of the Seas, which features the largest waterpark at sea, continues its cruise with enhanced safety reviews underway.
