Portland Unveils MLB Stadium Plans at Zidell Yards
The Portland Diamond Project (PDP) has unveiled new renderings for a proposed 32,000-seat Major League Baseball stadium with a retractable roof at Zidell Yards along the Willamette River. The stadium is planned to be situated between the Ross Island Bridge and Tillikum Crossing, with hopes to start construction by 2027 if awarded a team. PDP founder Craig Cheek and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson are advocating for state support, highlighting the stadium's economic potential. The project has received unanimous political backing from the Portland City Council. PDP has signed a purchase agreement for the Zidell Yards site and is seeking to update a 2003 legislative bill to align with current economic conditions. Although no official MLB team has been secured, Portland is considered a strong contender alongside other cities like Salt Lake City.
