France Announces Record €37B in Foreign Investments
French President Emmanuel Macron will announce a record €37 billion ($41.4 billion) in foreign investment commitments at the 'Choose France' summit, with €20 billion from new projects and €17 billion previously pledged, notably at an AI summit in February. Major investments include €6.4 billion by US firm Prologis for data centers, €8 billion from Emirati investors for data infrastructure, and significant projects from Amazon, Daimler, and Circ. These commitments surpass last year's figures and reflect strong international interest across sectors like technology and textile recycling. Despite this, France faces sluggish economic growth, rising public deficits, and persistent unemployment at 7.4%, putting Macron's goal of full employment by 2027 in doubt. Ongoing US-EU trade tensions add to the economic uncertainty. Finance Minister Eric Lombard described the investments as part of an offensive strategy to redevelop French industry and pursue modest growth targets.
