Two Fatal Pedestrian Accidents Rock Newark, Wilmington

A 48-year-old Newark man was struck and killed by a car on Salem Church Road near Christiana High School around 2:51 p.m. on Monday, after a northbound 2015 Nissan Altima veered off the roadway and hit him while he was on the right shoulder. After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle traveled through a grassy area, crashed into a tree, and overturned. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 18-year-old driver from Bear, Delaware, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released the victim's name as they are notifying family members. Salem Church Road was closed for approximately three hours during the police investigation, which remains ongoing. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
