TIFF Cancels Screening of War Documentary

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has cancelled screenings of the controversial documentary 'Russians at War' following significant threats to public safety. The film, directed by Russian-Canadian Anastasia Trofimova, documents Russian soldiers during the invasion of Ukraine and has faced severe backlash from the Ukrainian community and politicians, who label it as Russian propaganda. Despite initial support, TIFF reversed its decision to screen the film due to security concerns. The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF), however, intends to proceed with its scheduled screening, emphasizing the importance of fostering discussion and debate. Canada's Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland criticized the use of public funds for the film, sharing concerns with the Ukrainian Canadian community.
