Five Arrested, Charged After Lifeguard Assault in Melbourne

Five teenagers have been arrested and charged following a brutal assault on a 19-year-old lifeguard at the Casey Aquatic and Recreation Centre in Narre Warren, Melbourne. The incident occurred on January 19 when the lifeguard confronted a group performing dangerous stunts, leading to him being headbutted, kicked, and punched, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. Police executed search warrants in Cranbourne North and Narre Warren South, arresting two adults aged 18 and 19, as well as two 17-year-old boys, all charged with affray and assault. Another 18-year-old later turned himself in and was also charged. The City of Casey has emphasized its commitment to ensuring safety in aquatic facilities, with prior warnings about violence against staff. The lifeguard has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
