Busan Film Festival Honors Lee Sun-Kyun

The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will posthumously honor South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, best known for his role in the Oscar-winning film 'Parasite', with the Korea Cinema Award at its 2024 edition. The festival will screen six of Lee's works, including early films like 'Paju' and 'Our Sunhi', as well as the posthumously released 'Land Of Happiness', in which he portrays a soldier. Lee's death in December 2023, ruled as an apparent suicide amid a police investigation regarding suspected drug use, has led to widespread public concern and calls for transparency. The award ceremony and special screenings will take place during the festival from October 2-11 at the Busan Cinema Center. Organizers aim to celebrate Lee's contributions to Korean cinema and reflect on his impactful performances. The festival highlights not only Lee's achievements but also the cultural significance of his work in elevating Korean cinema on a global stage.
