Former CHP captain arrested
Matthew Stover, a former captain of the California Highway Patrol, was arrested on suspicion of workers' compensation fraud and perjury following a multi-year investigation by the CHP's Workers' Compensation Fraud Investigations Unit. Stover filed a workers' compensation claim in June 2023 and was subsequently placed on leave by a physician. However, authorities allege that while on leave, he engaged in activities inconsistent with the medical restrictions imposed on him. Additionally, Stover faces charges for falsifying vehicle registration paperwork submitted to the DMV, including making false statements to obtain insurance compensation. He has been booked into the Sacramento County Jail and is charged with multiple counts of fraud and perjury. The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the nature of his alleged fraud remain undisclosed.
