Rashida Tlaib Reelected, Defeats GOP Challenger

Hooper with 77% of the vote to Hooper's 19%, according to the Associated Press. Tlaib, a prominent member of the progressive 'Squad,' continues to be the only Palestinian American in Congress and has been a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy towards Israel, recently facing censure for her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Hooper, a conservative Christian and anti-abortion advocate, has also been involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Michigan. Tlaib's district, a Democratic stronghold, includes parts of Detroit and several surrounding areas, and she has been serving in Congress since 2018. Prior to her congressional career, she was the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. Her victory underscores her entrenched position within her district despite controversies surrounding her foreign policy views.
