Gamuda Secures RM1 Billion Data Centre Contract from Google in Port Dickson
Google has awarded Malaysian infrastructure company Gamuda a contract worth over RM1 billion ($236 million) to build a hyperscale data center in Port Dickson, Malaysia, as part of its broader $2 billion investment in the country's data and cloud infrastructure. The agreement includes the construction of a water treatment plant capable of supplying 65 million liters per day to meet the facility's cooling needs, and the sale of 389 acres of land from Gamuda to Google's affiliate, Pearl Computing Malaysia, for RM455 million. This is the second major data center collaboration between Google and Gamuda, following a previous contract for work at Elmina Business Park. Analysts believe this deal strengthens Gamuda's position as a key player in Malaysia's growing data center industry and positions it well for future large-scale projects, especially as global tech firms increase their investments in the region. The land sold can potentially support data centers with capacities of 800 to 1,000 megawatts, suggesting significant future opportunities for Gamuda. The project reflects Malaysia's emergence as a major hub for data centers, fueled by rising demand for AI and digital services.
