Oregon Launches Wildfire Certification Program to Lower Insurance Premiums

Despite concerns about federal cuts to firefighting staff nationwide, Gov. Tina Kotek assures that Oregon's regional partnerships and staffing remain solid for the coming season. To help homeowners protect their properties and address rising insurance premiums, the Oregon State Fire Marshal has partnered with a nonprofit to introduce a 'Wildfire Prepared' certification program, which recognizes preventative work and could lead to lower insurance costs. This initiative is designed to help Oregonians retain access to property insurance despite heightened wildfire risks, a challenge that has severely affected insurance availability in states like California. The program will also promote research and education on wildfire prevention and home hardening, aiming for a proactive response to the state’s growing wildfire threat.
